FAQ's

PRACTICE REQUIREMENTS:
Pop Warner mandates that ALL players MUST satisfy 10 hours of conditioning/non-contact practice and 10 hours of contact practice prior to participating in any league game. Required practice time will be met by all registered players and monitored by the league, even if games have to be missed. Coaching staffs will monitor this closely. Please remember that this is a very structured program with a heavy emphasis on practice and the repetitive teaching of important skills and safe techniques. Practices begin August 1 from 6:00 PM until 8:30 PM weekdays. Practices will run Monday through Friday, not to exceed 10 hours per week (Excluding water breaks) until Labor Day. In the event of a rain-out there may be a Saturday/Sunday practice scheduled.
The practice schedule after Labor Day will not exceed 6 hours per week (Excluding water breaks) at the same above mentioned time.  Pop Warner and Cape Coral Junior Football Association require that players attend ALL practices in August.  Please keep this in mind when planning vacations. Where possible, we recommend scheduling camps and trips in June and July, so as not to conflict with the start of Pop Warner practices. However, we understand that many families have August commitments. A player will have the chance to make up lost time in August and still enjoy a great season!

PLAYER EXPECTATIONS:

A player must be willing and able to attend practices throughout the season in addition to ALL games on Saturdays. It is proven that this will ensure each player's safety and development in the succeeding weeks. It is expected and required that each player attend ALL practices unless they are ill or have a required school event. Chronic and/or unexcused absences could result in suspension, dismissal, or ineligibility for Mandatory Play Requirements established by the league. It is difficult for players missing any of these practices to and takes away training and development time from the players that did attend. Our coaches take your child’s safety on the field seriously, for that reason if there is missed practice it will hinder there playing time in a game.  They CANNOT put a child out the field that has not practiced that week.

WHEN DO WE PRACTICE?
Practice begins August 1.  For the month of August practices can be up to 5 nights a week, Monday thru Friday from 6:00 - 8:30 PM.  After school starts most teams have practices 3 nights a week from 6:00- 8:30 PM.  We usually hold practices on Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday once we drop down to three nights a week with Thursday as our make up rain-out day.

*Practice end time is set by each separate teams Head Coach, so there will be some variances here.

WHAT ARE THE MANDATORY PLAY RULES?

Pop Warner is one of the few youth leagues in the country which has enacted & ENFORCES a mandatory minimum play requirement for all players. The rules are listed here and are absolute.

The following are our leagues rules regarding the Mandatory play rule.

1. Each team shall strictly follow the current National MPR.
2. Game officials will notify both Head coaches at the end of the third quarter of play, that any player who has not met the MPR should now be placed in the game.
3. Any player who has not met the MPR by the end of the 3rd quarter, according to the MPR sheet, MUST start the 4th quarter, regardless  of whether that team is on Offense or Defense. These players shall remain in the game until they have met the MPR. The MPR sheet shall  be considered the FINAL WORD and may not be over-ruled by ANY coach or Commissioner.

The current National Pop Warner rule book states the following with regards to the MPR.

16-25 players    -    10 plays
26-30 players    -     8 plays
31-35 players    -     6 plays

8U only

6-25 players    -    12 plays
26-30 players    -    10 plays
31-35 players    -     8 plays

The MPR is determined by the number of players eligible at the time of the game, and not based on the size of the roster.

WHEN ARE SIGN-UPS?

HOW DO I REGISTER MY CHILD?

All Registration forms for the upcoming Season can be found under the "Registration Info" page on our website.

The Pop Warner Little Scholars organization has a clear focus on the safety and academics of its participants.

As a result, there are a few "mandatory" forms that must be completed in order to register your child.

Below is a summary of all the necessary paperwork.

The following items are needed for registration:

1.  Athlete must be present at time of sign-ups for sizing.
2.  Parent or Legal Guardian must be present at Registration

Also, NO FAX COPIES will be accepted. League rules require the form to be the original document with original signature.

All forms can locations on our "Forms" page of this website - click here for a direct link.

MY CHILD HAS A BIRTHDAY DURING THE SEASON.  HOW DOES THAT AFFECT AGE PLACEMENT?

With Pop Warner games being played in the fall, the organization has setup specific guidelines: A child’s age on July 31st is his age for the entire season. So if your child turns 10 on August 1st, he will still be considered a 9 year old for registration purposes.

ARE THERE ANY OTHER REQUIREMENTS?

Pop Warner demands academic excellence among its participants.  Players MUST receive a 2.0 grade point average (or 70 percent average) in school to participate.

ARE THERE TRYOUTS?

No.  Everyone is allowed to participate and play.  All you have to do is sign up.

IS MY CHILD SAFE PLAYING ORGANIZED FOOTBALL?

Though injury is always possible in any sport, Pop Warner is quick to point out that injury rates are significantly lower in youth football than in high-school or college football.  CCJFA is also partnered with USA Football / HeadsUp to teach the proper fundamentals and make the game better and safer.

HOW MANY GAMES WILL MY CHILD PLAY?

The regular season is usually around 8 games between late August and October.  Our game schedule and amount of games are subject to change due to unforeseen circumstances like HURRICANES or other natural disasters.

IF MY CHILD ISN’T THE BEST PLAYER ON THE TEAM, WILL HE JUST SIT ON THE BENCH ALL SEASON?

Not at all.  Pop Warner has mandatory rules of play that requires everyone be able to participate.  This means that every player will get in for several plays in every game.

I WOULD LIKE TO COACH & CAN I COACH MY CHILD’S TEAM?

We are always looking for coaches.  If you would like to coach, please email us that you are interested.  A form will need to be completed and returned, but we will be glad to have you.  And yes, we do allow coaches to coach their own children, but we allow head coaches to pick their own staff so that they can ensure a proper fit for the team.
